“My career goal sounded convincing on paper. Then I had to explain why I needed an MBA to get there. That answer needed much more work.”

Questions you’ll practice

Common phrasings of what this interview asks, and what each one tests. An AI admissions interviewer works from your own application, so expect follow-ups on what you say.

  1. “Why do you need an MBA to get there? Couldn’t you do it without one?”

Tests: a gap only an MBA fills

  2. “Walk me through your resume.”

Tests: a clear story with deliberate choices

  3. “What do you want to do after the MBA?”

Tests: goals that are specific and believable

  4. “Tell me about a time you failed.”

Tests: ownership and what changed after

  5. “Tell me about a time you influenced people you didn’t manage.”

    Tests: leadership without authority

  6. “Tell me about a piece of difficult feedback you received.”

    Tests: self-awareness and growth

  7. “What will you contribute to the class?”

    Tests: a distinctive, concrete contribution

  8. “Why this school?”

    Tests: research beyond the website

  9. “What questions do you have for me?”

Tests: genuine curiosity about the program

Practice these MBA questions out loud

Setup takes about two minutes.

Have your answers said out loud before your invitation arrives.

Know what to change before the real interview

See where your answer lost its point, what was missing and what to try next. Your own words, with feedback on each question and scores across four skills.

A believable goal, but the MBA’s part in it stayed vague.

In your words
“I think the MBA would just really help me grow as a leader and, you know, broaden my network.”

Do this next time

Name the one thing you can’t get without the degree, then the job it gets you to.

By question
  1. “Why do you need an MBA to get there? Couldn’t you do it without one?”

Honest, then generic. Name the gap, not “growth”.

  2. “Walk me through your resume.”

Clear and in order. Say why you made each move, not just what it was.

  3. “Tell me about a time you failed.”

Real ownership. The follow-up found no lesson yet: add what you do differently now.

“I kept saying we when I described a project. The follow-ups made me get specific about what I decided, what I changed and what happened.”

One question, and what a strong answer does

An example of the kind of question you’ll be asked, and what the feedback looks for.

Illustrative example, not a real session
Admissions interviewer

“Tell me about a time you led a team through something that didn’t go to plan.”

Follow-up: “Looking back, what would you do differently?”

What a strong answer does

  • Sets up one specific situation and your role in a sentence or two.
  • Spends most of the time on what you did and why, not on the team.
  • Gives a result, including the part that did not work.
  • Answers the follow-up with a real change, not “I’d communicate more”.

What a mock interview costs

A consultant-led mock is one good session. Bossed is for every repetition before and after it.

One mock interview with an mbaMission senior consultant: $950.

A month of Bossed interviews: $29.99.

An mbaMission mock is with a senior consultant, who brings a person’s judgment of your program and a live debrief. Bossed is an AI and is not that. Use it for the reps, and a person for the final check if you can. Details for other services are as each publishes them on its own site, checked October 4, 2026.

Before you ask

Is an AI good enough?

For the reps, yes. It asks, listens and follows up on what you actually said, up to two hours a day, at 2 a.m. or the night before. Then it scores four skills and quotes your own words back, so you know exactly which answer to fix.

Will it know my school?

Upload your resume and paste the school’s MBA page. It asks why there from what the page says. It is built not to guess at facts the page doesn’t give.

Voice only?

Yes, no camera. You practice saying it, which is the part that goes wrong. It does not grade body language.

How fast can I start?

Setup takes about two minutes and needs no account. You choose a plan before your first interview.

How it works

Set up in about two minutes, then interview out loud and see your scores.

  1. Add your resume and the school

Upload your resume, then paste the school’s MBA page. Both are optional, and setup takes about two minutes.

  2. Interview out loud

Pick 10, 15 or 20 minutes. One AI admissions interviewer asks, listens and follows up on what you actually said.

  3. Get scored on four skills

Track record and goals, communication and presence, judgment and self-awareness, leadership and teamwork, with feedback question by question.

  4. Go again before the next school

Swap in the next school’s page and practice the why-this-school questions that interview will bring.

The night before

The same evening, two ways.

Without rehearsing

  • You’ve read your essays again. You’ve never said “why an MBA” out loud.
  • Your resume walk-through lists jobs instead of choices.
  • Your failure story ends before the lesson.

After practicing out loud

  • You’ve said “why an MBA” out loud, with a follow-up behind it.
  • Your walk-through explains each move in a sentence.
  • Your failure story ends on what you do differently now.

Good to know

15 minutes by default

Choose 10, 15 or 20 minutes; 15 is preselected. Real MBA interviews are usually longer than one session.

Voice only

Voice only: no camera and no video, so nothing to set up and nothing on film. Your spoken answers are transcribed so they can be scored.

Your interviewer’s accent

Your interviewer speaks with an American accent. You can change it in Settings.

Interview invitations can come at short notice, so practice before yours arrives.

Questions

What to know before you start practicing.

Is the interviewer a real person?
No. One AI admissions interviewer asks the questions out loud, listens to your answer and follows up on what you said.
Does it use my camera or record video?
No. It is voice only: no camera and no video. Your spoken answers are transcribed so they can be scored.
Can I practice for Kellogg, Booth or Wharton specifically?
Yes for Kellogg, Booth and Stanford GSB one-to-one interviews: paste the school’s MBA page and the interviewer asks why that program, from what the page says. For Wharton, it covers the short one-to-one conversation, not the team-based discussion. It is built not to guess at facts the page doesn’t give.
Can it be an alumni interview instead of admissions?
The interviewer adapts to the school and format: a faster, probing admissions style or a more conversational alumni one. You can also set the difficulty from 1 to 5.
What does it cost?
$29.99 a month or $12.99 a week, in US dollars, with up to two hours of interviews a day. The weekly plan is for when your interview is just days away; from three weeks on, the monthly plan costs less. Cancel anytime in Settings, with no cancellation fee, and you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
What doesn’t it cover?
Each session is one spoken interview with one AI interviewer. It does not cover the Wharton team-based discussion, the HBS post-interview written reflection, the full length of a real interview (a session is 10, 15 or 20 minutes), timed video recordings on Kira or similar platforms, essay or GMAT review or case interviews.
