The interviewer asks

Tell me about a problem where defining the question was the hardest part.

The answer
A request to make reporting faster could have meant quicker loading or less time finding the right report. I spoke with users and found discovery was the bigger problem. We tested clearer grouping before changing the infrastructure, which helped us focus the work on the actual delay.

Start with the role you applied for

Before you start

How to prepare your examples and get the most from your practice.

How should I prepare for this interview?
Start with the specific Google role and your recruiter’s preparation material. Bring examples of problem solving, collaboration and learning, with clear ownership.
Are these actual Google interview questions?
These are original practice prompts, informed by the public guidance linked on this page. Google chooses its own questions, and the process can vary by role, location and level. Use your recruiter’s instructions for your specific interview.
Can I use examples from study or volunteering?
Yes. Pick a real situation where you made a decision, helped someone or solved a problem. Explain your own contribution and be clear about the setting.
Should I memorise the example answer?
Use it to understand the structure, then practise with your own experience. A story you know well is easier to adapt when the interviewer asks a follow-up.
How does spoken practice help?
Saying an answer out loud reveals the details you skip and the parts that run on. Bossed gives feedback so you can improve one part and try again.
How do I get started?
Take the free readiness quiz to get your practice plan. Spoken interview sessions require a paid subscription; see the pricing page for options.
