Transcript: Tell me about a time you had to performance-manage someone out.

The answer, spoken
I inherited an engineer who had missed three sprints. I wrote down what good looked like in a month, met her weekly, and moved her off the critical path so the team was not carrying the risk. By week five she was closer but not there, so I started the formal process with HR. She left in the eighth week. Two people on that team told me afterwards it was the first time a manager had been straight with them.

Before you start

How to prepare your examples and get the most from your practice.

Is this for first-time managers?
Yes. Add the job description so Bossed can tailor practice to the level. If you have not managed people formally, use honest examples of coordinating work, mentoring someone or taking responsibility.
Do I need my examples ready first?
Bring three real examples: a difficult conversation, a priority you changed and someone you helped develop. You do not need polished scripts. Practising helps you spot which details need work.
How long is a session?
You choose 5, 10, 15 or 20 minutes, with one question at a time and follow-ups.
Is it free?
The readiness quiz and your practice plan are free. Interviews are $49.99 a month, or $29.99 a week if you have one interview coming up. Cancel through Settings → Manage subscription.
How does Bossed help me feel prepared?
Practise realistic questions out loud, get feedback on your answers, and build confidence for the conversation ahead.
Is my practice private?
Yes. We never publish your name, your voice or your sessions.
