Build a small bank of flexible stories
Choose examples covering a disagreement, a setback, a useful improvement and a result you are proud of. The same experience may answer several questions, but the emphasis should change. For a teamwork question, explain how you involved others. For an ownership question, make clear what you personally took responsibility for.
- Give the situation and task enough context to make the decision understandable.
- Spend most of the answer on the actions you took and why you chose them.
- Finish with the result and what you would carry into the next situation.
Make your contribution the part they remember
Bossed uses your CV and the job to guide a spoken mock interview. Practise turning a team achievement into a clear account of your own contribution, then handle follow-up questions about your choices. Session feedback helps you see where your answer needs more detail or a clearer structure.
Try it now
Practise one answer, then a follow-up
Tell me about a time you disagreed with a colleague.
- Jot down the main point, the example you will use and the result you want to explain.
- Record your answer out loud. Listen for anything a person unfamiliar with your work would struggle to follow.
- Answer again with that part made clearer. Then ask yourself: “How did you reach an agreement, and what happened afterwards?”
