What happens in a mock interview?

Someone asks questions that resemble the conversation you are preparing for. You answer out loud, explain your decisions and respond to follow-ups. Afterwards, you review what was clear and what needs more work. A useful mock gives you a specific next step, whether you practise with an AI interviewer, a colleague or a coach.

Choose the rehearsal that matches the stage

  • First conversation: practise a concise introduction, your reason for applying and the experience that connects you to the role.
  • Behavioral round: choose real examples of a decision, disagreement, setback and achievement.
  • Recorded interview: practise a complete answer that fits the instructions in your invitation.
  • Panel or second round: prepare to explain the same example from several perspectives and go deeper on the details.

Run a short mock with a practice partner

Share the vacancy and agree three questions in advance. Ask your partner to follow up when your contribution or reasoning is unclear. Answer without restarting, then review the whole conversation. Have them name one answer they understood well and one point they wanted you to explain further.

Use the feedback in your next attempt

Pick one improvement that you can hear: reach your main point sooner, explain why you chose an action, or finish with what changed. Repeat a similar question while the feedback is fresh. You are building a flexible explanation of your experience, rather than a perfect script.

A three-question mock you can try now

Start with: “What experience would you bring to this role?”

  1. Answer the opening question using one relevant strength and a real example.
  2. Continue with “Tell me about a problem you solved”, then “What would you do differently next time?”
  3. Review one answer, make one change and say it again.

Questions about your practice

Can I do a mock interview on my own?
Yes. Use a question list and a recorder, then review your answer. A partner or a guided mock can add follow-up questions and another perspective on what was clear.
What should I bring to a mock interview?
Have the job description, your CV and a few short notes about relevant experiences. If you know the format of the next stage, share that with your practice partner or use it to choose your rehearsal.

Be ready to explain what you can do.

Practise questions about your CV and the job with Bossed. Get feedback after each spoken mock, then put it to work in your next attempt.
