Video interview practice: explain what you can do

On a video call, your examples still do the selling. Practise explaining your experience clearly, responding to follow-ups and getting back on track if the connection interrupts you.

Practise the conversation and the setup

A video rehearsal has two jobs: checking that you can be heard and making sure your examples land clearly. Put your camera near eye level and test the microphone using a recording. Then move on to the substance: the skills the role needs and the evidence you can give.

  • Keep your notes to a few prompts so you can look up and talk naturally.
  • Pause briefly after a question to leave room for connection delays.
  • Have a simple recovery line ready: “The audio cut out briefly. Could you repeat the last part?”

Work on the answer as well as the camera angle

Bossed gives you a spoken conversation based on your CV and the role, so you can rehearse your examples and respond to questions about them. Review the session feedback to choose what to improve. Use your camera separately to check your framing, lighting and sound before the real call.

Practise one answer, then a follow-up

Walk me through a project you are proud of.

  1. Jot down the main point, the example you will use and the result you want to explain.
  2. Record your answer out loud. Listen for anything a person unfamiliar with your work would struggle to follow.
  3. Answer again with that part made clearer. Then ask yourself: “Which part of the project was your responsibility?”

Put your answer to the test with Bossed. Rehearse out loud and get specific feedback with a paid plan. Build my interview prep plan → Your readiness quiz and prep plan are free.

Questions about your practice

Should I memorise my answers?
Use a few notes to remember the example, then explain it in your own words. Practise answering a follow-up so you can adapt when the interviewer asks for more detail.
How does Bossed help me prepare?
Bossed uses your CV and the job description to run a spoken mock interview, with follow-up questions based on your answers. Afterwards, you get session feedback to help you decide what to improve. The quiz and preparation plan are free; spoken interviews require a paid plan.
