A useful rehearsal needs a question and a way to listen back
Your phone recorder, a timer and a job description are enough for a first practice session. Choose one responsibility from the job and one real example that shows you can handle it. Speak before writing a polished answer: your recording will tell you where the explanation needs work.
- Start with “Tell me about yourself”, then explain why this particular role interests you.
- Answer a question about a challenge using a real example.
- Listen for the point, your action and the result. Repeat only the part that was hard to follow.

Practise one answer, then a follow-up
Tell me about a problem you solved with someone else.
- Jot down the main point, the example you will use and the result you want to explain.
- Record your answer out loud. Listen for anything a person unfamiliar with your work would struggle to follow.
- Answer again with that part made clearer. Then ask yourself: “What did you do that helped the other person solve the problem?”
