Questions you’ll practise

Common phrasings of what this interview asks, and what each one tests. An AI consultant assessor works from your own application, so expect follow-ups on what you say.

  1. “A patient wants to self-discharge against medical advice. Talk me through it.”

Tests: capacity, autonomy and safety netting

  2. “You notice a colleague has made a prescribing error. What do you do?”

Tests: patient safety and duty of candour

  3. “Why have you chosen Internal Medicine Training?”

Tests: commitment, shown through your portfolio

  4. “Talk me through the quality improvement project in your portfolio.”

Tests: what changed, and your role in it

  5. “Tell me about a time you taught others.”

    Tests: teaching evidence and reflection

  6. “Hand over a deteriorating patient to the night registrar in two minutes.”

    Tests: structured, safe clinical handover

  7. “Tell me about a time you led a team under pressure.”

    Tests: leadership on the ward

  8. “How do you look after your own wellbeing?”

    Tests: insight into sustainable practice

  9. “What challenges is acute medicine facing in the NHS?”

Tests: awareness of the service you work in

Right answer, but capacity came too late.

In your words
“So I’d, er, try to persuade him to stay, and explain the risks, and then if he still wants to go…”

Do this next time

Open with capacity: say how you would assess it, then the risks, then the safety net.

By question
  1. “A patient wants to self-discharge against medical advice. Talk me through it.”

Kind and safe. Name the capacity assessment first.

  2. “You notice a colleague has made a prescribing error. What do you do?”

Patient first, then the colleague. Say how you would report it.

  3. “Talk me through the quality improvement project in your portfolio.”

Clear standard and result. Say what you personally did.

One question, and what a strong answer does

An example of the kind of question you’ll be asked, and what the feedback looks for.

Illustrative example, not a real session
Consultant assessor

“You are the medical registrar’s only support on a night shift and three referrals arrive at once. How do you prioritise?”

Follow-up: “One patient deteriorates while you are with another. What do you do next?”

What a strong answer does

  • Gives a structure first: quick assessment of each, sickest first, using early warning scores.
  • Says out loud who would be called and when: the registrar, the outreach team, a senior.
  • Delegates sensibly and keeps patient safety ahead of finishing the list.
  • Closes with a clear handover of what is done and what is outstanding.

Before you ask

Is an AI good enough?

For the reps, yes. It asks, listens and follows up on what you actually said, up to two hours a day, at 2 a.m. or the night before. Then it scores four skills and quotes your own words back, so you know exactly which answer to fix.

Does it mark me the way the panel does?

No. It scores four skills of its own, with a note on every question. It does not reproduce the official mark scheme.

Voice only?

Yes, no camera. You practise saying it, which is the part that goes wrong under pressure. It does not grade body language.

How fast can I start?

Setup takes about two minutes and needs no account. You choose a plan before your first interview.

How it works

Set up in about two minutes, then interview out loud and see your scores.

  1. Add your CV and portfolio

Upload your CV or paste your portfolio summary. No account needed, and setup takes about two minutes.

  2. Run a station out loud

Pick 10 minutes for one station, or 15 or 20 to run more than one back to back. One AI consultant assessor asks and follows up.

  3. Get scored on four skills

Clinical reasoning, communication, judgement and teamwork, each scored, with your own words quoted back and a note on every question.

  4. Go again on the weak station

Run the station that felt hardest until the structure is second nature.

The night before

The same evening, two ways.

Without rehearsing

  • You’ve read the ethics frameworks. You’ve never said one out loud against the clock.
  • Your QI project still takes the whole station to explain.
  • The handover station is the one you hope you don’t get.

After practising out loud

  • You’ve run each station out loud, with a follow-up behind it.
  • Your QI project is the standard, your part and what changed.
  • You’ve handed over a deteriorating patient out loud, and it was structured.

Good to know

15 minutes by default

Choose 10, 15 or 20 minutes. Pick 10 for one station; the real interview runs several stations online.

Voice only

Voice only: no camera and no video. Your spoken answers are transcribed so they can be scored on what you say.

Your interviewer’s accent

Your interviewer speaks with a British accent. You can change it in Settings.

Start practising before your interview date is confirmed, so every station is rehearsed.

Questions

What to know before you start practising.

Is the assessor a real person?
No. One AI consultant assessor runs the station out loud, listens to your answer and follows up on what you said.
Does it use my camera or record video?
No. It is voice only: no camera and no video, so it does not grade body language. Your spoken answers are transcribed so they can be scored.
Does it mark me the way the real panel does?
No. Bossed scores you on four skills of its own, with feedback question by question. It does not reproduce the official mark scheme.
How long is a session?
You choose 10, 15 or 20 minutes; 15 is preselected. Pick 10 to run a single station, or 20 to run more than one back to back, the way the online interview does.
What does it cost?
$12.99 a week or $29.99 a month, in US dollars, with up to two hours of interviews a day on either. You can cancel at any time in Settings.
What doesn’t it cover?
Each session is one spoken interview with one AI interviewer. It does not cover the MSRA or any exam, data, image or ECG interpretation, GP, core psychiatry or Foundation Programme applications or the deanery or trust you are applying to (the panels are national).
