Dentistry interview practice

Make your dentistry experience count when they ask why.

Turn shadowing into convincing answers. An AI interviewer probes your motivation and ethical reasoning, with feedback to help you say more with less.

Questions you’ll practise

Common phrasings of what this interview asks, and what each one tests. An AI MMI station assessor works from your own application, so expect follow-ups on what you say.

  1. “A dentist you shadow makes an error and doesn’t tell the patient. What do you do?”

Tests: duty of candour and patient safety

  2. “Why dentistry rather than medicine?”

    Tests: motivation specific to dentistry

  3. “What did you learn from your work experience?”

Tests: reflection, not a list of tasks

  4. “What problems does NHS dentistry face at the moment?”

Tests: awareness of access and how care is funded

  5. “Tell me about a time you used your manual dexterity.”

Tests: fine motor skill and patience

  6. “How do you cope with stress?”

Tests: resilience for a demanding course

  7. “Tell me about a team you were part of and your role in it.”

    Tests: teamwork and honest self-assessment

  8. “What qualities make a good dentist, and which do you have?”

    Tests: self-awareness backed by evidence

  9. “Why this dental school?”

Tests: research into the school’s own course

Practise these out loud

Setup takes about two minutes.

Know what to change before the real interview

See where your answer lost its point, what was missing and what to try next. Your own words, with feedback on each question and scores across four skills.

You reached the right answer, but the patient came second.

In your words
“Well, I’d probably, um, talk to the dentist first, because it’s their decision…”

Do this next time

Start with the patient’s safety and their right to know, then who you would speak to.

By question
  1. “A dentist you shadow makes an error and doesn’t tell the patient. What do you do?”

Sensible steps. Name the duty of candour plainly.

  2. “Why dentistry rather than medicine?”

Specific to dentistry. Add the moment in work experience that decided it.

  3. “What problems does NHS dentistry face at the moment?”

Clear on access. Finish with a view of your own.

“Saying the ethics answers out loud showed me how often I jumped straight to a decision. I started explaining both sides before choosing what to do.”

One question, and what a strong answer does

An example of the kind of question you’ll be asked, and what the feedback looks for.

Illustrative example, not a real session
MMI station assessor

“A patient tells you they are terrified of the dentist and want to leave before their treatment. How do you respond?”

Follow-up: “What could the practice do so they come back?”

What a strong answer does

  • Acknowledges the fear and listens before trying to reassure.
  • Respects that the patient can choose to leave, and explains what that means for their health.
  • Offers practical options: a break, an explanation of each step, a signal to stop.
  • Thinks about the wider team and a plan for the next visit.

Before you ask

Is an AI good enough?

For the reps, yes. It asks, listens and follows up on what you actually said, up to two hours a day, at 2 a.m. or the night before. Then it scores four skills and quotes your own words back, so you know exactly which answer to fix.

Does it run a full MMI circuit?

No. Each session is one station or one panel, so you can practise the station you dread, then practise it again.

Will it know my dental school?

Upload your personal statement and paste the dental school’s page. It asks why there from what the page says. It is built not to guess at facts the page doesn’t give.

How fast can I start?

Setup takes about two minutes and needs no account. You choose a plan before your first interview.

How it works

Set up in about two minutes, then interview out loud and see your scores.

  1. Add your statement and the dental school

Upload your CV or paste your personal statement, then paste the dental school’s page. Both are optional, and setup takes about two minutes.

  2. Interview out loud

Pick 10 minutes for one MMI station, or 15 or 20 for a panel. One AI interviewer asks, listens and follows up.

  3. Get scored on four skills

Insight, communication, ethical reasoning and teamwork, each scored, with your own words quoted back and feedback question by question.

  4. Go again before the next school

Swap in the next dental school’s page and practise the questions that interview will bring.

The night before

The same evening, two ways.

Without rehearsing

  • Your “why dentistry” is word for word from your personal statement.
  • You know the candour station is coming. You’ve never said your answer out loud.
  • Your NHS dentistry view lasts one sentence before the follow-up.

After practising out loud

  • Your “why dentistry” sounds like you, not your statement.
  • You’ve talked the candour station through: the patient first, then who you’d tell.
  • You can hold a view on NHS dentistry through a follow-up.

Good to know

15 minutes by default

Choose 10 minutes for one MMI station, or 15 or 20 for a panel. Real MMIs run several stations.

Voice only

Voice only: no camera and no video, so no feedback on body language. Your spoken answers are transcribed so they can be scored.

Your interviewer’s accent

Your interviewer speaks with a British accent. You can change it in Settings.

Questions

What to know before you start practising.

Is the interviewer a real person?
No. One AI interviewer asks the questions out loud, listens to your answer and follows up on what you actually said.
Does it use my camera or record video?
No. It is voice only: no camera and no video, so there is no feedback on body language. Your spoken answers are transcribed so they can be scored.
Can I practise for a specific dental school?
Yes. Paste the dental school’s own page during setup and the interviewer asks why that school, from what the page says. It is built not to guess at facts the page doesn’t give, such as a station count.
How long is a session?
You choose 10, 15 or 20 minutes; 15 is preselected. Pick 10 for a single MMI station, or 15 to 20 for a panel.
Who is it for?
Gap-year, graduate and mature applicants.
What does it cost, and can I cancel?
$29.99 a month or $12.99 a week, in US dollars, with up to two hours of interviews a day. Cancel at any time in Settings, with no cancellation fee, and you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
What doesn’t it cover?
Each session is one spoken interview with one AI interviewer. It does not cover a full MMI circuit (each session is one station or one panel), actor role-play stations, Casper and PREview, group tasks, written, data or dexterity stations, manual dexterity tasks or the UCAT.
