“Your grades dipped in your second year. What happened?”

- Explaining your work
- Academic reasoning
- Supervision and collaboration
“I kept saying the course was a perfect fit. Having to explain which module mattered and why made me realise I needed a much more specific answer.”
Questions you’ll practise
Common phrasings of what this interview asks, and what each one tests. An AI admissions tutor works from your own application, so expect follow-ups on what you say.
-
“Your grades dipped in your second year. What happened?”
Tests: candour about a weak spot
-
“Why this course, at this university?”
Tests: research into the course’s own modules
-
“What has been your favourite module, and why?”
Tests: real engagement with your subject
-
“Tell me about your dissertation or a major project.”
Tests: independent work, explained clearly
-
“What do you hope to do after the master’s?”
Tests: a plan the course actually serves
-
“Tell me about a current debate in your field.”
Tests: awareness beyond the syllabus
-
“How will you manage the step up to master’s-level study?”
Tests: realism about workload and independence
-
“Tell me about a time you worked through a difficult problem.”
Tests: persistence and independent thinking
-
“What questions do you have for us?”
Tests: curiosity about the course
Setup takes about two minutes.
Know what to change before the real interview
See where your answer lost its point, what was missing and what to try next. Your own words, with feedback on each question and scores across four skills.
A real reason, but it could be any course.
“I’ve always been, um, really interested in the subject, and I think the course would…”
Name one module on the course page and the moment in your degree that led you to it.
-
“Your grades dipped in your second year. What happened?”
Honest and brief. End on what changed, with the grades that followed.
-
“Why this course, at this university?”
Warm but general. The follow-up asked which module: lead with it.
-
“What do you hope to do after the master’s?”
Clear plan. Say how this course gets you there.
Illustrative example. Your scores will differ.
“I was worried about explaining the change from my first degree. Saying it out loud helped me connect what I’d already studied to what I wanted to do next.”
One question, and what a strong answer does
An example of the kind of question you’ll be asked, and what the feedback looks for.
“What in your undergraduate degree made you want to study this at master’s level?”
Follow-up: “Which module on our course do you think will be hardest for you, and why?”
What a strong answer does
- Names one specific moment, module or project rather than a general interest.
- Connects it to something the course actually offers.
- Answers the follow-up honestly, naming a real gap and how it would be closed.
- Keeps it to a minute or two and stops.
What it costs
Spoken interview sessions on either plan, up to two hours of interviews a day.
Spoken interview sessions, up to two hours of interviews a day
A week of focused preparation when your interview is just days away.
Need more than a week? Two weekly payments total $25.98. From three weeks on, the monthly plan costs less.
Cancel at any time in Settings, with no cancellation fee. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
Before you ask
English is my second language. Will that count against me?
Your answer is transcribed, and your feedback quotes what it heard, word for word, so you can check it. You’re scored on the words you said, not on your accent.
Is an AI good enough?
For the reps, yes. It asks, listens and follows up on what you actually said, up to two hours a day, at 2 a.m. or the night before. Then it scores four skills and quotes your own words back, so you know exactly which answer to fix.
Will it know my course?
Paste the course page during setup. The interviewer asks why this course from what the page says. It is built not to guess at facts the page doesn’t give.
How fast can I start?
Setup takes about two minutes and needs no account. You choose a plan before your first interview, and then you get up to two hours of interviews a day.
How it works
Set up in about two minutes, then interview out loud and see your scores.
-
Add your CV, statement and the course
Upload your CV, paste your personal statement, then paste the course page. All optional, and setup takes about two minutes.
-
Interview out loud
Pick 10, 15 or 20 minutes. One AI admissions tutor asks, listens and follows up on what you actually said.
-
Get scored on four skills
Subject knowledge, explaining your work, academic reasoning and collaboration, each scored, with feedback question by question.
-
Go again for the next course
Swap in the next course’s page and practise the questions that interview will bring.
The night before
The same evening, two ways.
Without rehearsing
- Your statement says why this course. You’ve never said it out loud.
- The dip in your grades still gets an answer that sounds like an excuse.
- “Why here?” could be about any university.
After practising out loud
- You can say why this course in two sentences, then stop.
- The weak spot has a short, honest answer that ends on what changed.
- Your “why here” names a module from the course page.
